Training Camp

Training camp opens the season. It’s where the roster is settled, and it’s the last step before we play.

Who gets invited

Players offered roster or affiliated player spots at Main Camp, in the days that follow, or during our Summer Development & Prospect Skates are invited to training camp — along with others still vying for a spot. Typically forty to fifty players in all.

Camp opens in mid-August at the Gale Centre. Invited players receive the schedule and full details by email beforehand.

How it’s structured

Two teams are formed and play three games over three days, with referees, a scorekeeper, a timekeeper and game music, in front of our coaches, management and staff. The same standard as Main Camp — real games, not scrimmages at the end of a long skate.

Releases are made after the third skate, and every participant receives an email that evening. Those who remain practice as a team, in the following days, before the preseason begins.

Then the preseason

From there we head into preseason games, where final roster and affiliated player decisions are made. It gives us a longer look at players against other teams, and it gives players a chance to make the case that three days of scrimmage couldn’t.

What players need to know

There’s no cost to attend training camp.

  • Dressing room assignments are posted at the Gale Centre. The Canucks room isn’t in use until the first preseason game, so all players — new and returning — use the rooms assigned for camp.
  • Players bring their own towel and shampoo until the team moves into the Canucks room.
  • Jerseys are handed out daily and collected after each skate. Our staff comes to each dressing room and assigns a jersey for the day. There’s no check-in.
  • Half-visors may only be worn by players who turn eighteen by December 31 of that year.
  • Neck guards are mandatory.
  • Mouthguards are mandatory for anyone wearing a half-visor.

Not invited yet?

Training camp invitations come out of our Main Camp and Summer Development & Prospect Skates. Both are open to apply.
